ENTERPRISE
& SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT
South African Government have clearly indicated that their strategy for job creation will rely heavily on creating industrialists and fostering small business growth. This is also evident from the shift in emphasis on the Enterprise and Supplier Development element, which now represents up to 40 points on the overall scorecard.
ESD is about creating better opportunities to work with majority Black owned SMMEs. It starts with Enterprise Development, which awards points for contributing to the development, sustainability, and financial and operational independence of majority Black owned EMEs and QSEs. Business is encouraged to align their Enterprise Development initiatives with their supply chain requirements through Supplier Development, which awards points for contributing to Black owned suppliers. The progression is punctuated with bonus points for graduating an Enterprise Development beneficiary to a Supplier Development beneficiary and creating jobs in the process.
